Medan or Jakarta, small planes or the overnight ferry, and the drive up the coast: how our guests get to Pasir Putih, and what we learned from them.

Nias feels far away, and that is part of its charm. The good news: with the right connections you can leave Europe or Australia in the morning and be eating dinner at our table the next evening.
Almost everybody flies to Medan (KNO) first, directly from Kuala Lumpur or Singapore or via Jakarta, then takes the short flight to Binaka (GNS) on Nias. The planes are small propeller aircraft, so check the baggage rules for surfboards before you book.
The overnight ferry from Sibolga to Gunungsitoli is slower but an adventure: bring a book, snacks and earplugs, and book a cabin if you can. Schedules change, so check them locally.
From the airport, our driver takes you north along the coast through villages, rice fields and coconut plantations. The drive takes about two hours; we stop for a fresh coconut if you like.
Tip: send us your flight number when you book. If your flight is delayed, we will know and wait for you.
