Tureloto Beach
Raised coral, clear calm water and easy floating: a favourite weekend beach in Lahewa.
Float in the calm
The 2005 earthquake lifted the reef at Tureloto out of the water, leaving a landscape of white coral and a shallow, sheltered lagoon. The water is calm and very salty, so floating is easy: locals jokingly call it the Dead Sea of Nias. It is a lovely place for a swim and a picnic, especially on weekdays when it is quiet.

How to get there
Drive west towards Lahewa (about 1 hour 15 minutes by car or scooter) and follow the signs to Pantai Tureloto. There are small warungs and simple shelters by the beach; there may be a small entrance or parking fee.
